My job involves offering amazing adventures for visitors to Belize to have an unforgettable time and creating memories that will last a lifetime. It is easier to share with others when you can personally experience it yourself as a travel consultant. Today, I ventured off to San Miguel Village where I met up with one family who provides a Maya cultural experience for visitors to enjoy. Ms. Maria Ack, was excited to show me how to make Corn Tortillas. I had a slight knowledge of how this was done but never actually did it before. The dough or 'masa' as we call it, was already prepared by Ms. Maria. It was so soft and cool to touch. We rolled out small round dough about 2 inches in diameter before flattening them on this wooden table. She lit the wood for the firheart, where these delicious corn tortillas would be baked on a large comal. It came out quite delicious, we had hot corn tortillas with roast pork and caldo-a Maya soup dish. After this meal, all I wanted to do was to lie down in her handmade hammock and dream of diving the Belize Barrier Reef! You could experience this wonderful activity in just 2 hours and you'll be amazed at all the wonderful folkstories this lady have to share. There are so many other activities you can do in San Miguel like learning how to do milpa farming, chocolate making, canoeing the Rio Grande River, embroidery, pottery making and so much more.
